Hey.

I havent posted anything for a while...because i havent really been up to much.

im making a dubstep ep and ive got about 9 tracks for it and i only wanna use four...i can decide which to use.
i need some help on that.

my band ( THESE FURROWS ) are up to some cool stuffs right now.
got some big stuff coming along which ill post after this wednesday...aka when i know the full details.

but yeah...some tings will pop off soon im sure.

I got asked to dj the coronet theartre last moths and i didnt notice that it was a circus...well it was a joint indoor festival with a circus.
it was amazing.
i had such a dope time.

my band played up stairs THESE FURROWS

i played out a little set of my tunes and a couple others on the main stage downstairs.

worlds smallest set up.
was pretty rammed...people seemed to enjoy.

this was just after my set...or before i cant remember but they let of a firework that landed on the pioneers mixer...was madness!!my brother band played too FUN LOVIN' CRIMINALS they headlined the night.
overall it was amazing.

Whats going on with hostage right now?

Things are going supersweet thanks. I'm being kept really busy with loads of gigs, I feel humbled and honored at the amount of ravers that come to the gigs and the responses I've been getting recently. I've got a load of new material and some secret weapons in my CD wallet (you can't really say record bag nowadays much eh?) which I'm looking forward to dropping in Leicester.

Herd you have been touring, hows it going?

Touring has been amazing, I did a few shows last month in the US with Oh Snap!! - the guy who did the vocals on the Bill Cosby Sweater remix. We had some great adventures and again I was surprised and humbled how popular my tracks were in the US too - so we rocked the shows from El Paso to NYC, and thoroughly enjoyed it - it was super tiring, well....I was probably making myself tired sometimes, but, well, it's exciting and there's work but there's also partying to be done too yeah? :D

Being a scottish boy whats the house scene like up there?

Scotland is small. People have to remember there are only 4 million people in the WHOLE of scotland. BUT there is a host of nights in both Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen too, with many big names coming to play up here, the crowds are enthusiastic and I can say it's going from strength to strength with Herve, Foamo and many more all playing in Glasgow next month!

So what exactly is going on with Cata.Pirata right now?

I've started a (relatively) new band called Skip&Die which is a collaboration between producer Jori Collignon (musician of Amsterdam bands 'C-mon&Kypski' and 'Nobody Beats The Drum') and myself (South African-born musician/visual artist, formerly of the band 'Shane Shu'). We're working an a debut album, collaborating with a couple of South African and European musicians (names yet to be revealed, but they are wiiiiicked!).

Simultaneously, I'm busy making an experimental film/rockumentary which will be released at the end of the year. And I'll be starring in a feature film premiering in the Summer, whilst trying to write my MA dissertation, yikes.

i hear you have your own radio station, thats dope! whats the vibe of that?

The Musi.Cata.Pirata Radio.Show is an amalgamation of African / South American / Electro music. I'm interested in dissolving (musical) boundaries while at the same time embracing what's ace about where we're all from; our roots, our mythologies, our cultural bricolage. SoundArt Radio (UK 102.5FM) gives me the freedom to express just that. And I love hearing new stuff, so I'd like to make a shout-out to all the fresh talent on the global streets, send me your ep's yo! haha

Finally Where can we next catch you ?

At the moment I've locked myself up in the studio to work on new Skip&Die tracks, so offers for gigs seem to pop up when/where I least expect them, but as soon as we've finished the Skip&Die album I'll have a much more systematically laid out tour-schedule. All I know now is I'll be in South Africa until June, then back and forth between Amsterdam and the UK during the Summer, so needless to say there will definitely be a lot of hip-shaking going on... I'll keep you on the down low!

also you played the Tate Britain in London not long ago what was that like ?

Playing at Tate Britain was unusual,
the idea of disgracing a hugely established
and historically important Art Gallery is amusing.

which i imagine is hard to come by in London.

most of your remixes are based on bands music
apposed to electronic,
what non electronic bands are you into right now?

although my remixes are less electronic based to begin with
I'm not actually that into or up to date with bands or anything related.
- partly because I'm so busy and partly because i find a lot of it completely lacking life,
ideas and urgency.

Such things aren't essential to make a good piece of music
but then the stuff I hear loses on all fronts.
but in saying that electronic music has no where to hide.

artists like bass hunter make the most revolting array of idea less,
advertising friendly bullshit I've come across in a while. - and people love him - ha

and lastly whens your next gigs or events?

at the moment there is a possibility
of a club night in Luxembourg in April -
there will be lots of gigs to come
once some of the releases are hitting the streets.
